Week 28 - Mar 10 - PTA Newsletter

Week beginning:  March 10, 2024

Dear Sulphur Springs Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for your support of our Book Fair.  It was great fun seeing all the smiling faces with new books this past week.  If you would like to continue to make purchases, you can visit our online Book Fair through March 13.  We will continue to earn 25%, and all monies goes towards the school library and to teachers for their classroom libraries.

Please join us this Tuesday at 1:30pm, just before pick-up, for our Annual Meeting and Officer Elections for the 2024-2025 school year.  We will have a revised slate at the meeting, plus additional candidates.  Our Nominating Committee has been hard at work – thank you Chrystal Ramos, Kim Sperling, Nicole Carruth, and Principal Palacios!

In order to vote – or to run for office – individuals must have been a paid PTA member on 2/11/2024.  We will have a list on site if you can’t remember, or you can email the SSPTA President at President@sspta.org to inquire.

If you would like to run for an officer position (President, Vice President of Programs, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, or Financial Reviewer), you still can!  Simply attend the meeting – in person or online – or email the Nominating Committee at mrschrystalramos@gmail.com or the current PTA President at President@sspta.org.

In addition to electing next year’s leaders, we will also be discussing upcoming events for the Spring and setting up planning committees for next year’s calendar and next year’s budget.  If you can’t attend but would like to get involved, please email President@sspta.org

We look forward to seeing you Tuesday afternoon!  1:30pm in Bungalow 41 or online at

3. List of Volunteer Needed

We have an immediate need for volunteers in the following areas.  If you would like to donate any amount of your time, please reach out to the contact listed:

  • Multicultural Fair (March 22) – This will be the second year of our amazing multicultural fair, sharing some of the cultures of our school with our students.  Last year, we had tables representing Argentina, Japan, Peru, and the Philippines.  If you would like to host a table for a country (educating students about local foods, clothing, music, customs, etc.), please be in touch with Daynabelle Anderson (daynabelle@gmail.com).

    • If you don’t want to commit to hosting a table/country but would still like to help in some way, we would love that too!  Email Daynabelle, and she’ll help you figure out the best way you can contribute.

    • We are also planning an evening component where students, families, or groups will perform – music, dance, song, etc.  If you know of someone who might be interested in doing that, please contact Daynabelle ASAP.

  • Women in History Week (3/25-3/29) – A different female chef will be presented each day.  We have scripts, costumes, and goodies for the kids.  What we need are friendly volunteers to come into the classrooms, present a famous chef, and have a great time with our students.  If you’re ready to sign up, contact Mellissa de Conza at mellissadeconza@gmail.com, text Rose McGee at 818-818-9628, or email President@sspta.org

  • Talent Show (April 22-26) – Contact Rose McGee (818-818-9628) or Kessa Taylor (K.TaylorMoore@gmail.com) to get more involved in our talent/variety show.

    • We need contacts with business owners who might be willing to donate construction materials (plywood, 2x4s, paint and rollers, glow tape, etc.).

      • Thank you to the de Conza family for their donation of headset mics!

    • We are also seeking a volunteer who could help with filming and/or editing the students’ performances.  (We can probably get access to a camera or two, but we need someone who can use it and then ideally edit the recording so we can share it with families online – or on DVD.)

    • And, of course, we need people to help with make-up and hair, to supervise the kids backstage, and to help with our sound system during rehearsals and shows.  Even if you can’t commit to every rehearsal and show, please let us know where you can help!

  • Game Room (ongoing) – We have a volunteer coming once a week to play board games with the kids, and we have another volunteer coming once a week to do art projects with them.  This is during their lunch recess time, so approximately 12:15-1:35pm.  If you would like to help with these activities, or if you would like to run your own activity during this time, please email the Chairperson, Daynabelle Anderson, at daynabelle@gmail.com, to coordinate.  The PTA has board games available if you would like to do those with the kids, and we may have some budget to support new activities if you wanted to add something (like organized field games or Spanish conversation); just let us know!
